About Eric Caspers
Eric Caspers was a senior professional in the Club Industry who has brought his depth of experience and perspective to the unique challenge facing Boards of Directors and General Managers of clubs today. He was a former President and Board member of the Metropolitan Club Managers Association and served as Chairman and Co-Founder of the Metropolitan Club Foundation. He also was a member of the Board of the New York State Club Association and a member of the Advisory Board of Westchester Community College.
Eric's career began in Europe. He came to the United States in 1962, taking his first position as Assistant Manager at the Gaslight Club in New York City and Washington, DC between May, 1962 and October, 1963. Then became a Restaurant Manager for Mr. Richard, Inc., in New York City (November, 1963 to April, 1967). Mr. Caspers then moved to Florida for a little more than a year, serving as Food and Beverage Director at the Hilton Hotel in Clearwater from April,1967 through October,1968. Eric's exceptional knowledge of operations led to major consulting assignments for a number of outstanding hotels and clubs in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. He worked for Robert H. Kaiser Associates in Ossining, New York, as an Operation’s Specialist from October,1968 through August,1974 performing feasibility studies, systems analysis and pre-planning for new hotels and restaurants. In 1974 he took a temporary job at a private club. For twenty-four more years (July,1974 through December,1998), Eric served with distinction at the prestigious Beach Point Club in Mamaroneck, New York, where he has guided the club's growth in quality of service, profitability and membereship. He was known for his honesty and integrity, compassion, strength and courage, and a deep appreciation for the civilities of life, such as refinement, grace and elegance. Caspers was recognized in 1992 by his peers as the Tanqueray Club Manager of the Year. Eric always loved great food and fine wine. When he passed away in 1999 after being retired for only 6 months, members of Beach Point and his club manager friends created a special endowment through the Metropolitan Club Foundation to not only memorialize his name, but to create opportunities for others. One of Eric’s favorite quotes was: “In the race for excellence, there is no finish line.” This endowment is intended to assist others in their pursuit of excellence, especially when it comes to learning about food and wine. |
